VOLO Augmented Reality App

An experimental project celebrating the start of a new year, VOLO is a unique augmented reality experience that encourages the user to set intentions for the year ahead. The app gives anyone the opportunity to send a wish of hope into the world with the same ease as they might drop pebbles in a wishing well.

At the beginning of the experience a fog sets the scene and stars begin to fall from the sky above. The user is invited to draw a digital wish, changing its shape by moving their device in real time. The completed wish is tagged with date and location data, then released into a stream of wishes contributed by other people around the world.

Users tap once to make their wish and a spiraling line is drawn out from the phone into an invisible canvas, like a vertical pottery wheel. Moving the device up or down creates unique volumetric wish shapes. Amid falling stars and hazy mist, other users' wishes draw themselves out in real time.

The experience connects users around the world through the use of virtual wishing wells, connecting people and visualizing their shared hopes and dreams.
